The Slovak Republic is situated in Central Europe, sharing frontiers
with the Czech Republic, Austria, Poland, Hungary and Ukraine. The
republic is hilly and picturesque, with historic castles, forests,
pure mountain streams, romantic valleys and lakes, as well as excellent
facilities to take the waters at one of the famous spas
or to ski and hike in the mountains.

The Tatra range and the
foothills of the Carpathians descend to the huge and fertile Danube
Plain, located in the southwest near Bratislava. The famous Danube
River flows through the southwest of the Slovak Republic and connect
its capital Bratislava with Vienna in Austria and Budapest in Hungary.
The Slovak Republic was prior the 1918 a part of the Austrian-Hungarian
Monarchy and this is reflected in its culture music, food and
architecture - especially in the south. |
